The Council of European Dentists (CED), together with the European Association of Hospital Pharmacists (EAHP), the European Consumer Organisation (BEUC), the European Federation of Nurses Associations (EFN), the European Hospital and Healthcare Federation (HOPE), the European Patients’ Forum (EPF), the International Association of Mutual Benefit Societies (AIM), the Pharmaceutical Group of the European Union (PGEU), the Standing Committee of European Doctors (CPME), joined a statement on protecting patient data in the Digital Omnibus.
The statement’s main asks to the legislators are the following:
- Preserve the specific protection of health data in the digital environment
- Ensure that AI development does not bypass safeguards for the use of patient data
- Protect patients from tracking, profiling and commercial exploitation
- Maintain strong safeguards for pseudonymised health data
- Preserve the right not to be subject to automated decision-making and ensure meaningful human oversight in healthcare
- Support innovation without weakening fundamental rights
