Press Release: CED May 2026 General Meeting in Limassol, Cyprus

23/06/2026

Thomas Koutras, President of the Cyprus Dental Association, welcomed Members to Cyprus. An address was then delivered to the Plenary from the Minister of Health of the Republic of Cyprus, followed by a video intervention from a Cypriot Member of the European Parliament, MEP Loucas Fourlas, affiliated with the European People’s Party (EPP).

The General Meeting was also addressed by the European Dental Students’ Association (EDSA), represented by Saulė Skinkytė (EDSA President), Angeliki Anna Gkinosati (Treasurer) and Dimitrios Raptopoulos (General Secretary).

Delegates were updated on the latest international policy developments relating to the EU4Health programme, EU measures on crises prevention, preparedness and response, ethanol, tobacco, sugar and nutrition.

Members were also informed of the organisation of two events by the CED since January 2026, including the co-organisation of the ADEE GED Workshop in Copenhagen on Undergraduate Dental Education, and the organisation of the CED Policy Event “Sugar: Europe’s Barrier to Improving Oral Health and General Wellbeing” in the European Parliament.

CED delegates were informed of the publication of the 2025 CED Annual Report, available here.

The General Meeting was also updated on the work of CED Working Groups and Task Forces, including on results of relevant surveys, on the submission of four responses to public consultations, as well as the development of joint policy statements. Presentations were followed with the adoption of one policy document:

CED Resolution on Data Sharing as part of eHealth: Workflow, Prescription Protection and EHDS (update), available here.

The CED Resolution updates the 2018 Resolution to ensure alignment with the European Health Data Space (EHDS) framework. The revised draft includes a “Digital Workflow” section tailored to the dental sector and aligns e-Prescription and Data Protection policies with current CED positions. Outdated recommendations were removed while core professional principles were retained for legal clarity.
